Cyjon's Sims 2 Mods
NEWS January 24, 2010 - I've had a sudden urge to get back to Sims 2 so I'm in the process of upgrading all my mods to Apartment Life and Mansions & Gardens. It will be slow at first because I'm installing mods only a few at a time, but they'll get there eventually. Some mods which didn't appear to be AL-compatible are actually fine while others marked safe...weren't. Nothing that will blow up your game but keep an eye out for updates over the next few weeks.
All of the mods here have been updated to work with FreeTime and most work with Apartment Life. Nearly all mods will be updated to Apartment Life. They have all been tested in my games, but some not extensively.
Apartment Life and Mansions & Gardens Compatibility: As of January 2010, I am starting the process of installing these mods in a game with AL and M&G. I'm discovering, as expected, hackdiff tells only part of the story.
For example Scrap Named Painting has no changes so should be AL compatible, but it didn't work when I used in in AL. Cyjon's Permafridge didn't change but one of the functions it uses changed. In apartments it would throw five errors every midnight - I don't know why five, but there it is. Both have been updated but more may be lurking out there.
When using these hacks with older EPs, particularly pre-Seasons, understand although a mod might be labeled as compatible there is a subtle difference between working and working correctly. The two examples above could happen in backward-compatible situations.
Sims 3 Modding: Many modders are abandoning Sims 2 in favor of Sims 3. I'm not one of them. Sims 3 was interesting but held my attention only briefly. I'll doubt I'll ever go back to it and I certainly won't bother modding for it. I plan to continue modding Sims 2 for the forseeable future.
My Support Policy: These mods are offered with no support. I try to create code compatible with a wide range of EPs but basically I'm one of those modders that, once a mod does what I want, I lose interest and move on. I have no time to offer additional features or other support.
My Usage Policy: Do whatever the hell you want with these mods. I have no problem if people use my code in their work since there's no reason to re-invent the wheel. I borrow code from other modders all the time. Sometimes I even remember to give credit.
Mods are added to the list below as they are added to the site. I may organize the list better at some point - or I might not.
Each mod page has categories listed on the top, including the EPs that they work with. You can click on any category (e.g. "Non-Human Sims") to get a list of related mods.
